BancoDoBrasil_640Most countries are pretty passionate about the World Cup. Exceptions will made, corners will be cut and surgical incisions will be left open each time Lionel Messi works himself into an inch of space. And you can forget all 32 nations, it’s a global festival.

Brazil, however, is another animal. Maybe a lion or a lioness, or perhaps an elephant. Whatever it is, it’s a bit football crazy, so don’t expect to do any banking while Brazil is playing – the country’s shutting down.

Bank workers in the nation of 190 million have also been granted a request to quit work early on days when Brazil plays so they can watch the games live on television.

As a service to Brazil, here are those hours in Rio time (contrary to popular belief, that is not a method used by Rio Ferdinand for seduction…that we know of):

June 15th – 3:30p (North Korea)
Second game (Ivory Coast) is on a Sunday.
June 25th – 11a (Portugal)

(And just in case…R16 – June 28th, 330p; QF – July 2nd, 11a; SF – Sunday; Final – Saturday.)

Now according to multiple sites banking hours in Brazil are 10a-4p M-F, so the 15th isn’t much of a worry, but on Friday the 25th Brazilians might want to queue up early.

Alongside the banking industry shutting down, beer has been made more accessible. Which means there’s more beer for everyone to consume while they should be counting the country’s money.

On an entirely unrelated note…who’d like to wager Brazilian bank heists surge suspiciously during Brazil games?
